F. Michael Carrillo
Partner
Michael Carrillo has extensive experience and a distinguished history of achieving favorable results for his clients. Michael graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Arizona and began his legal journey. He attended the Sandra Day O’Connor School of Law at Arizona State University and is licensed to practice law in Arizona state courts, the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
During law school, he secured an internship with the Maricopa Legal Defender’s Office, where he had the privilege of observing and learning from capital defense attorneys. This experience ignited his passion for criminal law, as he witnessed their profound knowledge of the law and science, coupled with their compassion for clients facing severe allegations.
Upon graduating, Michael worked for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, gaining invaluable experience interpreting statutes and constructing cases based on applicable laws and facts. Recognizing his true calling was in defense, he transitioned to the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office, where he thrived. After several years in Maricopa County, he returned to his hometown of Tucson, Arizona, continuing his work in public defense. He successfully represented clients across a wide spectrum of criminal offenses, including homicide, assault, sexual offenses, property crimes, white-collar crimes, DUI, and vehicular homicide.
In 2013, Michael and his sister Erin founded The Carrillo Law Firm, PLLC, committed to serving their community and advocating for the rights of the accused. Over the past 20 years, Michael has expanded his practice to include federal offenses, including immigration, human smuggling, and drug-trafficking related matters.
Michael is dedicated to his clients, taking the time to listen to their stories, investigate their cases thoroughly, and build robust defenses to achieve the best possible outcomes. Michael is bilingual and represents clients in both Spanish and English. He feels honored to live and work in Southern Arizona.
Erin M. Carrillo
Partner
Erin M. Carrillo is a dedicated criminal defense attorney with a steadfast commitment to justice and advocacy. After graduating from the University of Arizona, Erin attended Hamline University School of Law in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Since becoming licensed in 2006, she has expanded her practice to include the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. Erin has passionately defended individuals facing the most serious charges in both state and federal courts, navigating all stages of the criminal justice process from pre-indictment investigations to trials, appeals, and post-conviction relief.
Erin is particularly driven by the pursuit of justice for those who are marginalized, wrongfully accused, and unjustly condemned. Her strategic acumen and comprehensive understanding of the law have resulted in favorable outcomes for her clients. A highlight of her career occurred in 2023 when the firm secured the release of a man wrongfully convicted of murder, who had spent nearly a decade in prison for a crime he did not commit. This case underscored the systemic flaws within the legal system and fueled Erin’s dedication to fighting for the rights of the innocent.
Erin is committed to continuous professional development, regularly attending seminars and collaborating with legal experts to enhance her advocacy skills.
Erin will know your case better than anyone else. Her approach is rooted in thorough preparation, knowledge of the law, and understanding the facts of your case. She is empathetic and compassionate, ensuring each client feels heard and respected throughout the legal process. Erin believes that every case represents an individual whose life is at stake, which motivates her to advocate tirelessly on their behalf. Her goal is simple: to be the most effective advocate for each client she represents.
